The young tanner Konstantis did not bear her sudden unfair death and the next day the locals found him dead under the Castle. Ever since then, rumors have that his spirit surrounds and haunts the Fountain of Harmena.
Even the existence of the annual masquerade Carnival, which is in-twined with the local community, is based on this romantic story, that last year it attracted 4.000 visitors. At a very young age the Amfissians are initiated and dress-up themselves in costumes, as masquerades, such as baby sheep, little fairies and exotic elves.
The carnival event begins from Harmena on Friday (the last weekend of the Triodion- a Pre-Lent period within the Greek Orthodox Church tradition) with «The Awakening Call of Konstantis». It continues on Saturday, with the «Night of the Spirits» and concludes with a huge procession that ends at Kehagia Square.
For 2018, at least 3,000 people were dressed up, wearing tanned skins, bells and ropes, the three basic elements that consist traditionally old professions.
